     Payson's founding year is considered to be 1882, known as Green Valley or Union Park at the time.  The 2006 Census Bureau estimates the population of the town to be 15,257.  Payson is located just about midway between Flagstaff and Phoenix, as the crow flies.  Payson is surrounded by rolling hills and mountain vistas. Elevation is at 5,000 feet and the region is characterized by four mild seasons.  The region can expect 21 inches of annual precipitation on average.
